A Sales Sign of the Times →
Since I work at a competing store, I decided to click on this article about JC Penney’s decision to change their sales strategy. I am kind of floored. And confused.

Since my provider has gotten glitchy and I spend more time looking for something to watch than actually watching anything, it seems like a good plan. It's ALIVE!
Since my own poor laptop is still sitting in the floor of the living room, writhing in virus agony, I borrowed my parents’ old desktop for a while. The thing smells like it’s melting, takes five minutes to pull up most webpages and growls like a while animal, but it’ll do until I can afford a new one.
Which, at this rate, may be never.
But for now, I’m back.

As we are driving to Oklahoma.
Bill: I got new windshield wipers, too.
Me: Good, you needed them.
Bill: Yeah, not that we'll see any rain anyway.
Twelve hours later.
Me: Was that thunder?
Bill: (to the window) Yup.
Not all that amusing or ironic, just a way to say that we did indeed make it to Oklahoma safe and sound. We're staying 20 miles away from the city we're meant to be in, but that's okay. They caught Shiloh's murderer yesterday about 4pm and that made the drive in much less dour. We have one last court date for custody today; the services for the Oklahoma family will be tomorrow.

There’s two reasons for this.
I’m sore from yesterday. In the usual places: quads, calves, etc. And in unusual places: obliques.
Tragedy struck this afternoon. Bill’s sister was killed. Since that part of the family is in another state, he left almost immediately, and I’ve been waiting around for details most of the day.

I nearly cried when I realized my local bookstore sold its one copy of the complete works of Allen Ginsberg.

So the end of year reviews were just given out at work. I managed only a six cent pay increase. Not what I was hoping for, but I couldn’t complain too much since some of my coworkers were facing pay-cuts.

I bought a new dining room table. Got a great deal. Holly will always be a part of my dining experience now, though, since she decided to write her name on it.

Their scale said 176. Now, I know there is some discrepancy between scales, and I know I did not gain six pounds since the last time I weighed.
But still a major wake up call.
If at all possible, always try to convince someone else to do the first spring lawn mowing. My hands hurt. My right arm might just fall off. I cut a chunk out of thumb.
But the back yard looks pretty damn good.

Bought a rake.
The new leaves on on the trees, so it’s time to get the old ones out of the way. Something I’ve been avoiding since I moved in way back in December.
Honestly, though, I love yard work. I love to rake leaves, pull weeds, lift heavy stones, lob off ugly limbs, do just about everything but spread mulch. That stuff is nasty.

Why am I nervous?
He’s meeting my parents. He’s got to put on the good-boy act and say all the right things and not draw the wrath of a protective dad. He’s the one who needs to keep an eagle eye out for shotguns.
So why am I the one sitting here tapping my foot? Why am I worried that I’m not dressed right? Why is the smell of my perfume cloying my nose? What do I do with myself?
Beautiful bursts of weather traveling through the area tonight. I’ve missed honest-to-goodness lightning storms, but the season is upon us and joy is in my heart.
